Solving Energy Inefficiency

It is well known that energy usage as a nation is significantly more wasteful than everyone else on this planet. We’re also known to be one of the biggest polluters because of this inefficiency. I believe this represents a wonderful business opportunity for innovative individuals and companies alike. Think of it this way, cleaning up the environment, reducing greenhouse gases, improving energy efficiency and making money at the same time. What a deal!

Clean Air Act 1990

According to The US Environmental Protection Agency, the early warning signs of global climate change have been reviewed and found accurate. An amendment to the Clean Air Act in 1990 forced a reduction in the emissions of the ‘greenhouse’ gases listed in the table below.  Stopping these chemical compounds from being released into the air will yield a cleaner, healthier atmosphere. By lowering electrical usage, these toxins are kept out of the air we breathe. Awareness of energy usage and attention to ways we can conserve electricity are more important than ever. Increasing electrical efficiency is practical and cost-effective. This action that will lower pollution and help stop global warming.

When you install energy conservation products, you save a lot more than just money.  You also help to save the environment. When the demand for electricity is reduced, power companies burn less fossil fuel.

Using post installation data of kwh electrical consumption leading companies are reducing carbon emissions to differentiate services and products and enhance corporate reputation. An offset inclusive carbon reduction plan enables businesses to take immediate, cost-effective action to meet their emissions reduction target and realize the business value of achieving their goal.

Carbon Footprint

A ‘carbon footprint’ measures the total greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by a person, organization, event or products.

The footprint considers all six of the Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gases: Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and Sulphur hexafluoride SF6.)

A carbon footprint is measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). The carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) allows the different greenhouse gases to be compared on a like-for- like basis relative to one unit of CO2. CO2e is calculated by multiplying the emissions of each of  the six greenhouse gases by its 100 year global warming potential GWP).

Conclusion

Carbon emissions are known to be a major cause of global warming and climate change. The fact that global warming exists and that humans are speeding up global warming, doesn’t mean we have to just sit back and accept the consequences. Doing energy efficient work by measuring and reducing your emissions can reduce your impact on the environment and help reduce the effects of global warming.
By installing energy efficient measures such as lighting, lighting controls, energy efficient window films etc. we have achieved energy reductions of over 60%  in most cases, this means reducing pollutants  by millions of tons. At the end, this makes us feel good knowing we doing the right thing.
